It is a fastener made by cutting a braided cord into various shapes and fastening it to a loop on one side of the cord (ukeo). These are also called male and female cords, and other fastenings such as the shaka musubi for male cords and the agemaki musubi and keman musubi for female cords have been used. In the early modern period, clasps were attached to hakoseko and bags, and animal bones and horns, and later metal buckles, came to be attached to tabi socks, which were previously tied with string. …
