Dibenzene Chromium

Japanese: ジベンゼンクロム

Chemical formula: [Cr(C ₆ H ₆ ) ₂ ]. It is a π complex in which two benzene molecules are coordinated with π electrons in parallel to a chromium atom with an oxidation number of 0, and is a typical example of a sandwich compound (Figure). It was first created in 1955 by EO Fischer of Germany and his colleagues, and its unique structure, which is the same type as ferrocene, attracted attention and was one of the compounds that started the new field of structural chemistry. A mixture of anhydrous chromium chloride (III), aluminum powder, anhydrous aluminum chloride, and benzene was reacted under reduced pressure, and the reaction product was cooled while being isolated from the air, hydrolyzed with methyl alcohol and water, and reduced with benzene and sodium dithionite to obtain a diamagnetic black-brown cubic crystal.

化学式[Cr(C₆H₆)₂]。酸化数0のクロム原子に二つのベンゼン分子が平行にπ電子で配位したπ錯体で，サンドイッチ化合物の典型である(図)。1955年ドイツのフィッシャーE.O.Fischerらが初めてつくり，フェロセンと同じタイプの特異な構造が注目され，新しい分野の構造化学出発のきっかけになった化合物の一つである。無水塩化クロム(III)，アルミニウム粉，無水塩化アルミニウムおよびベンゼンの混合物を減圧下で加圧反応させ，さらに反応生成物を空気を遮断したまま冷却し，メチルアルコールと水で加水分解して，ベンゼンと亜ジチオン酸ナトリウムで還元して得られる反磁性黒褐色立方晶。
