Secret Observations - Kenchu Mikkan

Japanese:
Secret Observations - Kenchu Mikkan
A commentary on over 400 poems from the Kokinshu, written in the early Kamakura period. 3 volumes. Also known as Kokin Hishu Sho and others. In 1221 (Jokyu 3), Fujiwara Teika added his own theory as "secret thoughts" to the commentary on the Kokinshu written by Akiaki of the Rokujo Fujiwara clan (different from the extant Akiaki Kokinshu Sho). Teika was generally positive about Akiaki's commentary, but there are also examples where the academic styles of the two men were in stark contrast. It was widely circulated in later generations and was even published during the Edo period. [Akase Tomoko]
