...The representative works before the Second World War include J. Reed's Ten Days That Shook the World (1919), EP Snow's Red Star of China (1937), and in Japan, Yokoyama Gennosuke's The Underclass of Japan (1899) and Hosoi Wakizo's The Sorrowful Story of a Factory Girl (1925). In the Soviet Union and Russia, there is a genre called ocherk (documentary literature), which was advocated by Gorky and many writers have written excellent works, including IG Ehrenburg, MA Sholokhov, and VV Ovechkin. In postwar Japan, Oya Soichi established the Non-Fiction Club in 1957, mentoring the younger generation, and was also inspired by American new journalism from the 1960s onwards.
