Born October 25, 1876. Nephew of Shibusawa Eiichi. After studying abroad in Europe and the US, he joined the Ministry of Communications and was in charge of supervising the electrical industry and electrical engineering. In 1919, he also served as a professor at Tokyo Imperial University. He contributed to the development of hydroelectric power generation, and became chairman of the Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan and the first Japanese to become an honorary member of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers. In 1939, he became the first president of Nagoya Imperial University. In 1935, he was awarded the Order of Cultural Merit. He passed away on February 22, 1975. He was 98 years old.
