A court poet who served the Umayyad Caliphate in the Iberian Peninsula and spent his life in Cordoba. He left behind odes praising his master and didactic poems, but apart from some love poems he was praised for, and lacked originality. However, his anthology of poetry, Ikhd al-Farid (The Matchless Necklace), which collected traditional poetry from the eastern Arab world and compiled it into 25 volumes by theme, was praised in the Western world and had a major impact on literary activity in the region. イベリア半島の後ウマイヤ朝に仕え，生涯をコルドバで過ごした宮廷詩人。主君をたたえる頌詩，教訓詩等を残しているが，恋愛詩の一部が評価されるほか，独創性は欠けていた。しかし東方アラブ世界の伝統的詩文を集め，主題別に25巻に編んだ詩華集《類稀なる頸飾り(イクド･アルファリード)》は，西方世界で賞賛をうけ，この地の文学活動に大きな影響を与えた。後には東方世界においても貴重な文献の一つにあげられている。【黒田寿郎】
