Shibata Renzaburou - Shibata Renzaburou

Novelist. His real surname was Saito. Born in Okayama Prefecture. Graduated from Keio University's Department of Chinese Literature. He was called up in 1942 (Showa 17) and miraculously survived after being adrift in the southern seas. After working as an editor after the war, he won the Naoki Prize in 1951 (Showa 26) for "Descendants of Jesus." In 1956, he established himself as a historical novelist with "Nemuri Kyoshiro Burai-kō" (1956-1958), and in 1970, he won the Yoshikawa Eiji Literature Prize for "Shiba Ren Sangokushi: Eiyuu Koko ari." The author's talents are on full display in his fantasy novels that let his unrestrained imagination soar, such as "Akai Kagebōshi," "Mummy House," "Irregular Gate," and "Chishiobue," and his style is characterized by a fast-paced, matter-of-fact style that eliminates unnecessary detail.
