Teikichi Shiba

Teikichi Shiba
1869-1939 A journalist and politician from the Meiji to early Showa periods.
Born August 17, 1869. After working as a professor at Buddhist University, he joined the Yorozu Choho newspaper in 1898. He later became editor-in-chief and advocated for the protection of constitutional government and the acquisition of universal suffrage. In 1925, he founded the Tokyo Daisei Shimbunsha newspaper company, where he became president and editor-in-chief. He was a member of the House of Representatives from 1928 (elected six times, Rikken Minto Party). He passed away on October 14, 1939, at the age of 71. He was born in Echizen (Fukui Prefecture). He graduated from Imperial University. His works include "National Social Theory."

明治2年8月17日生まれ。仏教大教授などをへて,明治31年万(よろず)朝報に入社。のち主筆兼編集長となり,憲政擁護,普通選挙権獲得の論陣をはる。大正14年東京大勢新聞社を創立し,社長兼主筆。13年から衆議院議員(当選6回,立憲民政党)。昭和14年10月14日死去。71歳。越前(えちぜん)(福井県)出身。帝国大学卒。著作に「国家的社会論」。
