A former town in Higashikatsushika County, northwestern Chiba Prefecture. Located on the Shimousa Plateau on the south bank of Lake Teganuma, it produces tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries, and flowers, and is also known for cultivating green onions and pears. As it is within commuting distance of the city center, the population is growing rapidly. Incorporated into Kashiwa City in March 2005. 41.99 km2 . 46,286 people (2003). 千葉県北西部，東葛飾(ひがしかつしか)郡の旧町。手賀沼南岸の下総(しもうさ)台地上にあり，トマト，キュウリ，イチゴ，花卉(かき)を産し，ネギ，ナシの栽培も盛ん。都心への通勤圏となっているため，人口増加が著しい。2005年３月柏市へ編入。41.99km2。４万6286人（2003）。
