A former town in Higashikatsushika County, northwestern Chiba Prefecture. Located on the Shimousa Plateau on the south bank of Lake Teganuma, it produces tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries, and flowers, and is also known for cultivating green onions and pears. As it is within commuting distance of the city center, the population is growing rapidly. Incorporated into Kashiwa City in March 2005. 41.99 km2 . 46,286 people (2003).
