…After the fall of Osaka Castle, Ieyasu granted Yoshinao of Owari the important territories of Kiso, Urakiso, and Mino, and exerted strong control over the Kiso River. Because it was difficult to travel by raft upstream, Kiso timber was floated in pieces, known as Okawa-gari, and was then carried downstream by raft from Nishikori Tsunaba via Kaneyama, Inuyama, and Enjoji to Shiratori Kiba in Atsuta. The Kobe clan of Inuyama and the Nonoguchi clan of Enjoji had held great interests in the downstream transport from early on. …
