Shino Munenobu - Shino Soushin

Year of death: 1523.9.1 (1523.9.10) Year of birth: Kakitsu 2 (1442) A Muromachi period incense master. One theory is that he was born in Bun'an 2 (1445). He was the founder of the Shino school. He was commonly known as Saburozaemon, and his pen name was Shokakuken. He is said to have been active during the heyday of famous incense containers, but his biography is unknown. The Munenobu Meikogoki has a postscript by Sanjonishi Sanetaka from Bunki 2 (1502), and it is presumed that the two men were friends. The Shino Munenobu Ko no Hitsuki contains an article on 88 rules of incense container practice, but there is a need for historical criticism. The Shino school was passed down to Munenobu's son Muneharu.
