1831‐1914
An English royal English teacher invited from Singapore to Bangkok by King Mongkut of Thailand in 1862. He taught English to the princes until 1867, and is said to have had a major influence on Chulalongkorn's understanding of Western culture as a boy. Margaret Landon's novel Anna and the King of Siam (1945), based on his autobiography An English Tutor at the Court of Siam (1870), was adapted into the musical The King and I, which popularized a distorted image of Mongkut to the world.

タイのモンクット王が1862年にシンガポールからバンコクへ招聘したイギリス人の宮廷英語教師。1867年まで王子たちに英語を教え，少年時代のチュラロンコンの西洋文化理解に大きな影響を与えたとされる人物。自伝《シャム宮廷のイギリス人教師》(1870)に基づいたランドンMargaret Landonの小説《アンナとシャム王》(1945)はミュージカル《王様と私》に脚色され，ゆがんだモンクット像を世に広めた。
