Japanese: シナガワハギ - しながわはぎ
Shinagawahagi - Shinagawahagi
This biennial plant of the legume family grows on coasts, riverbanks, roadsides in lowlands, and vacant lots. It was first discovered in Shinagawa, Tokyo, and was named Shinagawa bush clover (illustration). The stem is 20-150cm tall, erect, well-branched, and almost entirely hairless. The leaves are compound with three leaflets. The leaflets are narrowly oblong, blunt at the tip, 1.5-3cm long, and serrated around the edges. The flowering season is July to December. Numerous pale yellow, butterfly-shaped flowers grow in axillary racemes. The flowers are 4-6mm long. The fruits are broadly elliptical, slightly swollen, 2-2.5mm long, and about 2mm wide.
