A medieval samurai family whose main territory was Shinagawa-go in Musashi Province. They were a branch of the Oi clan, a samurai family in eastern Musashi Province descended from the Ki clan, and began when Kiyozane, the son of Hyosan Musha Sanenao, divided Shinagawa-go and called it Shinagawa (river). It is believed that they served Minamoto no Yoritomo around October 1180 (Jisho 4) along with other powerful families in the country, such as Edo and Hatakeyama, and in 1184 (Genryaku 1), Kiyozane obtained an order from Yoritomo exempting Shinagawa-go from miscellaneous public duties. After that, due to Kiyozane's distinguished service in the pursuit of the Taira clan, he gained territories in Izumi, Ise, and Mutsu, and expanded.
