Born on July 21, 1887. After working at Kobe Steel and Hoshi Pharmaceutical, he went independent in 1924. He worked on developing a Japanese phototypesetter with Morisawa Nobuo. In 1940, he established the Phototypesetter Research Institute (later Shaken). In 1942, he completed the practical machine SK1, and in 1960, he succeeded in fully automating it. He produced 50,000 original characters for Morohashi Tetsuji's "Dai Kanwa Jiten" (Great Japanese-Chinese Dictionary). In 1960, he received the Kikuchi Kan Award. He passed away on April 5, 1963.
