Jitsuchu - Jitsuchu

Japanese: 実忠 - じっちゅう
Jitsuchu - Jitsuchu
Years of birth: Years of birth and death unknown A monk from the Nara and early Heian periods. He is said to have been born in Jinki 3 (726). His origins are also unknown. From around the latter half of the Tenpyo era (729-749), he was a close aide to Roben of Todaiji Temple, and was active in the construction of Todaiji Temple, and also served for a long time in the Eleven-faced Penitence of the Nigatsudo Hall of the temple. It is said that this was started by Jitchu. Under Dokyo's administration, he continued to be involved in the construction as the junior governor of Todaiji Temple, and was also involved in the construction of Saidaiji Temple and Sairyu-ji Temple. After Roben's death, he held a succession of important positions at Todaiji Temple, and worked hard to maintain the temple. His final position was Gonbetto. He was a monk who was particularly outstanding as an engineer in temple construction. <References> "The 29 Articles of Jitchu, the Gonbetto of Todaiji Temple" (included in Todaiji Yoroku), Sakuma Ryu, "Research on the Biographies of Ancient Japanese Monks"
