A former town in Kikuchi County in northern Kumamoto Prefecture. The central part is a lowland with the Kikuchi River flowing through it, and produces high-quality Kikuchi rice in abundance. The surrounding plateaus produce vegetables, tea, and tobacco leaves. Livestock is also raised here. In March 2005, it was incorporated into Kikuchi City along with Shisui Town and Asahi Village in Kikuchi County. 20.50 km2 . 5,992 people (2003). 熊本県北部，菊池郡の旧町。中部は菊池川などが流れる低地で，良質の菊池米を多産，周辺の台地では野菜，茶，葉タバコも産する。畜産も行う。2005年３月菊池郡泗水町，旭志村と菊池市へ編入。20.50km2。5992人（2003）。
