Science of labour

Japanese: 労働科学 - ろうどうかがく(英語表記)science of labour
Science of labour
A science that studies the laws of the labor process that are established under capitalist economic structures and production relations. It mainly studies (1) labor force, (2) work environment, (3) work organization, (4) work methods, and (5) work conditions based on physiology, hygiene, and psychology, but some, like F. Giese, broaden its scope to include production science, labor education, economics, labor law, and philosophy. Teruyoshi Teruyoshi, the first director of the Kurashiki Institute for Science of Labor (now the Institute for Science of Labor), the oldest in Japan, also presented a similar idea in a systematic way. The term labor science is historically new, first used by the Belgian physiologist J. Ioteiko, and is widely used in Germany, France, Belgium, and Japan, but is rarely used in the United Kingdom or the United States. (→Ergonomics)
