Genchu-ji Temple

Japanese: 玄中寺 - げんちゅうじ

This temple is located deep in the mountains at an altitude of 900m on Shibi Mountain in Jiaocheng County, Shanxi Province, China. It is located about 70km from the provincial capital of Taiyuan , about a two-hour bus ride away. It is said to have been founded by Donran , the founder of the Jodo sect, in 472-476 AD during the Northern Wei dynasty. It is also an ancient temple where Ennin (Jikaku Daishi ), who later became the third head priest of Tendai, and Honen, who spread the Jodo sect in Japan, visited and practiced. Within the temple grounds are buildings such as the Tenno Hall, Daibutsu Hall, Seven Buddha Hall, and Thousand Buddha Temple, as well as Buddha statues and stone monuments from across the ages.

中国の山西省交城県にある石壁山の、標高900mの奥深い山中にある寺院。省都・太原(たいげん)（タイユワン）市から約70km、バスで2時間ほどのところに位置する。浄土宗の開祖・曇鸞(どんらん)が、北魏の時代の西暦472～476年に開山したとされる。のちに第3代天台座主となった円仁（慈覚大師）や日本で浄土宗を広めた法然が訪れ、修行した古刹(こさつ)でもある。境内には、天王殿、大雄宝殿、七仏殿、千仏閣などの建物があり、歴代の仏像や石碑がある。
