French composer. Also known as Boiseldieu. A leading figure in the opéra comique (opera) in France in the first half of the 19th century. After presenting operas in his native Rouen, he moved to Paris in 1796, where he gained immense popularity with his numerous operas. He was skilled in orchestration, and his clear style, full of melodic beauty, was praised by many composers of later generations. He taught at the newly established Paris Conservatoire in 1798, while also serving as a composer at the St. Petersburg court from 1803 to 1810. His works include operas such as The Sacra of Baghdad (1800) and The Lady in White (1825), as well as the Concerto for Harp (1795), which is still often performed today, piano pieces, chamber music, and songs. → Adam Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
