Died June 18, 1884. Argentine lawyer and political thinker in Paris. In 1838, he went into exile in opposition to the dictatorship of J. Rosas. He studied law in Uruguay and then moved to Valparaíso, Chile. After the fall of Rosas in 1852, he served as an ambassador in Europe and the United States while also writing books. His essay entitled "Bases y punto de partida para la organización política de la República Argentina" (The Fundamentals and Starting Points of the Political Organization of the Argentine Republic), which he sent to the Constitutional Congress held in Santa Fe in the same year, as well as many other works, had a major impact on Argentine politics and the constitution, and he is said to be one of the great political leaders of Latin America.
