A mathematician in the early Edo period. He studied mathematics under Shimada Sadatsugu and Imamura Chisho, and published "Tateiroku Kanasho" (1662), an explanation of Imamura's "Tateiroku" (1639). He also wrote "Kidokuhosu" (1697), which shows magic squares up to 30 squares, and many other works on calendars. He served Hoshina Masayuki, the lord of Aizu, and was involved in surveying Lake Inawashiro and Mount Iide. He served Hoshina not only because he was involved in surveying and accounting, but also in the calendar reform project. His salary was sometimes as low as 200 koku, and sometimes his family stipend was confiscated.
