…It was a liturgical event that spread from Germany in the late Middle Ages, was welcomed by the people of Christian countries, and was held outside the church. In German, it is called Fronleichnamsprozession. The devotion of the masses to worship the consecrated bread as Christ, which was raised to the height of the Eucharist after the consecration, began in Paris around 1200, and was gradually introduced into the liturgy. It reached its peak with the exposition of the Eucharist, in which the Eucharist is placed in a container and displayed to the congregation after Mass, the Eucharistic adoration, in which people kneel before the Eucharist and pray and meditate, the benediction, in which the congregation is blessed with the Eucharist, and the Eucharistic procession, in which the Eucharist is carried through the town in a procession (since 1274 in Cologne). …
