Also known as crested celosia. An annual plant of the Amaranthaceae family native to tropical Asia. The stem is thick and upright, growing to about 1m, with alternate lanceolate leaves. The stem tip is banded to form a rooster-comb-shaped inflorescence, which produces many small flowers. The inflorescence comes in a variety of colors, including yellow, white, pink, and red. It flowers from August to November, and is suitable for planting in flower beds and as cut flowers. It is sown in the spring and is easy to cultivate. There are dwarf varieties with heights of 20 to 30 cm, and strains whose inflorescences are not crest-shaped but are clustered or spherical.
