Annotated Commentaries on the Four Books (English: Shisho Shichuu)

Japanese: 四書集注 - ししょしっちゅう（英語表記）Sì shū jí zhù

A commentary on the Four Books. It consists of four parts: Compiled Commentaries on the Analects, Compiled Commentaries on Mencius, Chapters on the Great Learning, and Chapters on the Doctrine of the Mean. This was the work on which Zhu Xi of the Southern Song dynasty devoted his greatest effort, and it is said that he did not stop revising it until just before his death. While drawing on the commentaries of Song dynasty scholars, he added new interpretations based on his own worldview, beautifully fusing commentary and philosophy. Respected as the bible, so to speak, of Neo-Confucianism, this book was probably the most widely read in early modern Chinese society after the Song dynasty. [Miura Kunio]

四書の注釈書。《論語集注》《孟子集注》《大学章句》《中庸章句》の4編より成る。南宋の朱熹（しゆき）がもっとも力を注いだ著述で，死の直前まで改稿の手を休めなかったといわれる。宋代の学者の注釈をふまえつつ，自己の世界観にもとづいて新たな解釈を加えており，注釈学と哲学とがみごとに融合している。朱子学のいわばバイブルとして尊重され，宋以降の中国近世社会で，もっとも広く読まれたのはこの書であろう。【三浦国雄】
