Iron oxalates in the oxidation states II and III are known. [Iron(II) oxalate] Chemical formula: FeC 2 O 4 ・2H 2 O. It occurs naturally as humboltin. It can be obtained by dissolving iron in oxalic acid or by adding oxalic acid or an aqueous solution of an alkali oxalate to an aqueous solution of an iron(II) salt. Pale yellow crystalline powder. Orthorhombic crystal system. Specific gravity: 2.28. When heated in air, it decomposes at 150-160°C, and no anhydrate is obtained. It is sparingly soluble in water. Soluble in dilute inorganic acids and aqueous solutions of alkali oxalates. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
