Self-smell disorder

Japanese: 自己臭症 - じこしゅうしょう

This refers to the symptom of thinking that an unpleasant odor is leaking from one's body and that this is the reason why other people dislike one. It is said to be relatively common among Japanese people.
It may also be accompanied by abnormal sensations or olfactory hallucinations, where the person senses odors that do not actually exist. It often begins at a young age and may take the form of a type of phobia, namely social phobia ("phobia"). If the thoughts are too strong, it may lead to delusions or gradually other symptoms of schizophrenia may appear.
The person's distress is often so strong that they may become so worried that they cannot leave the house and may become withdrawn, interfering with their daily life. We recommend that you consult a psychiatrist as soon as possible.

自分のからだからいやなにおいが漏（も）れ出ているのではないか、そのせいで人に嫌われるのではないか、と考えてしまう症状をさします。比較的日本人に多いとされています。
　体感異常をともなったり、本当は存在していないにおいを感じてしまう幻嗅（げんきゅう）がともなうこともあります。若いころに始まることが多く、恐怖症の一種、すなわち対人恐怖（たいじんきょうふ）、社交恐怖（しゃこうきょうふ）の形をとることもありますが（「恐怖症」）、あまりにその考えが強いと、妄想（もうそう）になってしまったり、徐々に統合失調症（とうごうしっちょうしょう）のほかの症状が出現してくることもあります。
　本人の苦痛が強いことが多く、気になって家から出られずに引きこもりがちになるなど、日常生活に支障をきたすこともあります。早めに精神科の医師に相談することをお勧めします。
