...the practice of modifying or altering parts of the body. It can be classified as body modification or body mutilation. In a broad sense, it is considered a type of body decoration, but unlike wearing ornaments or painting the body, it is characterized by the fact that once a part of the body is modified, it cannot be restored to its original state.
