A new form of samba that originated in Brazil in the mid-20th century. Influenced by West Coast jazz, it has an intellectual, calm sensibility and new harmonies. It was created by wealthy white people living in the south of Rio de Janeiro. It became commercialized and spread around the world after Jobim's song "The Girl from Ipanema" became a hit in the United States in 1963. Bossa nova means "new trend." → Related articles Gilberto | Lelouch Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
