The capital is Troyes. The region is made up of three concentric zones, like a fan, with Paris at its center. The inner zone is the hilly region of the Cliffs of the Île-de-France, the central zone is the plateau of the dry (barren) Champagne, and the outer zone is the lowland of the wet Champagne.
