Signal flow graph

Japanese: シグナルフローグラフ（英語表記）signal‐flow graph

When simultaneous linear equations are given, rather than solving them directly using algebraic operations, a method was presented in 1953 by SJ Mason in which a graph representing the equations is used and an equivalent transformation is performed on the graph or a method of solving the equations is used by focusing on the structure of the graph. The graph is drawn by corresponding the nodes of the graph to the independent and dependent variables and the edges to the coefficients of the equations, and is characterized by its ability to accurately display the causal relationships (signal flow) between variables, and in this sense it is called a signal flow graph.

連立一次方程式が与えられたとき，それを代数演算により直接に解くのでなく，方程式を表現するグラフを対応させ，グラフ上で等価変換を施したりあるいはグラフの構造に着目して解く方法が1953年にメーソンS.J.Masonにより示された。独立変数および従属変数にグラフの節点を対応させ，方程式の係数に枝を対応させてグラフを描くもので，変数間の因果関係(信号の流れ)を的確に表示できるところに特徴があり，この意味でシグナルフローグラフとよばれる。
