Mother Goose
(Mother Goose ) A collection of traditional British nursery rhymes. In the late 18th century, John Newbery compiled them into Mother Goose's Melodies. Songs such as "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and "London Bridge" are also widely known in Japan. The name "Mother Goose" was first used in a small book for children published by Mary Cooper in London in 1744.

(Mother Goose 鵞鳥(がちょう)おばさんの意) イギリスの伝承童謡集。一八世紀後半ジョン=ニューベリーによって Mother Goose's Melody として集大成された。「メリーさんの羊」「ロンドン橋」などは日本でも広く知られている。「マザーグース」の名は、メアリー=クーパーが一七四四年にロンドンで出版した子ども向けの小型本に用いたのが最初。
