This refers to a 3,106 carat (621.2 gram) rough diamond discovered in South Africa in 1905, and the diamonds cut from it. It was mined at the Cullinan Mine, a diamond mine in the northeast of South Africa owned by Sir Thomas Cullinan, and after being sold to the South African government, it was presented to King Edward VII of the British Royal Family in 2007. The rough diamond was later cut into nine and 96 small pieces named Canalin I to IX. The largest, Canalin I (530.2 carats), is known as the "Great Star of Africa" and is the world's largest colorless cut diamond (second largest of all cut diamonds) as of February 2016. It is displayed in King Edward's scepter and is on display in the Tower of London. (2016-2-18) Source: Asahi Shimbun Publications About Chiekura Mini Information |
