Simeon During the reign of Emperor Simeon I (893-927), Bulgaria moved its capital to Preslav (southeast of Shumen), and after fighting many battles with the Byzantine Empire and others, expanded its territory to the Aegean and Adriatic Seas, becoming a major European power on a par with the Frankish Kingdom. In 913, Simeon was granted the title of "Emperor of Bulgaria (Tsar Car)".
