Albireo - Albireo (English spelling)

The proper name of Beta Cygnus. Located in the beak of Cygnus, it also forms the Northern Cross, which is formed by the central star of Cygnus. It is a beautiful double star consisting of an orange primary star and a blue companion star, praised as the "jewel of the heavens." Kenji Miyazawa likens it to the Sapphire and Topaz stars in "Night on the Galactic Railroad." It is 434 light years away from Earth and has an apparent magnitude of 2.9. The primary star is orange (golden) with an apparent magnitude of 3.1, which is also a double star. The companion star is blue and has an apparent magnitude of 5.4. Albireo was thought to be an apparent double or binary star, but an analysis of the proper motion data from the Gaia satellite revealed that it is an actual binary star. It can be seen in the southeastern sky around 7pm in mid-August, in the south-southeastern sky around 8pm, and directly overhead around 9pm.

はくちょう座β(ベータ)星の固有名。はくちょう座のくちばしにあたる部分に位置しており、はくちょう座の中央の星によってできる「北十字星」をも構成している。「天上の宝石」とたたえられるオレンジの主星と青い伴星からなる美しい二重星で、宮沢賢治は『銀河鉄道の夜』でサファイアとトパーズの星となぞらえている。地球からは距離434光年先にあり、実視等級は2.9等星である。主星はオレンジ（金色）で実視等級は3.1等星、この星も二重星である。伴星は青く実視等級は5.4等星である。アルビレオは見かけの二重星または連星と思われていたが、ガイア衛星による固有運動のデータの解析から実際の連星であるとわかった。8月中旬の午後7時ごろに南東の空に、午後8時ごろに南南東の空に、午後9時ごろに真上の空に見える。
