Rothschild, LW (English spelling)

…He was of Jewish descent and also contributed to the development of the Zionist movement. Meyer Amschel Rothschild (1744-1812), a money changer in Frankfurt-Mumbai-Main who went by the family name of “The Red Shield Rotschild,” quickly became wealthy as the “court banker” of Count Wilhelm IX of Hesse. He received a cut from the Hesse Count, who was famous for selling his country’s peasants as mercenaries.
