[raw]?
[Died] c. 713 The last king of the Visigothic Kingdom (reigned 710-711). Also called Roderic. During Rodrigo's reign, his enemies sought foreign aid, which led to an invasion by Tariq ibn Ziyad, a military commander of the Umayyad dynasty of Arabia. Tariq invaded the country in 711, leading a large Berber army across the Straits of Gibraltar. Rodrigo called for national unity but failed, and was defeated by Tariq on July 19, 711, on the shores of Lake Funda, south of Medina, Sidonia. Rodrigo is never heard from again. He is said to have died around 713.
