Around 1320-80
Commander-in-chief of the French royal army during the Hundred Years' War. He seems to have been of low-ranking feudal lord status, but after the Treaty of Bretigny and Calais in 1360, he rebuilt the royal army, intervened in the factional conflicts in Brittany and Spain backed by England and France, and after the war resumed in 1369, he became commander-in-chief of the royal army in 1370 and led the war to a favorable outcome. This is a good example of Charles V's skill in recruiting talent, and he responded by adding mercenary troops that had become bandit gangs to the royal army during the truce and at the same time demonstrated his realist ability to deal with things.

百年戦争期のフランス王軍総司令官。下級領主身分の出らしいが，1360年ブレティニー･カレーの和約以後，王軍の再建に当たり，ブルターニュ，スペインにおける，英仏それぞれを後ろ盾とする党派対立に介入し，69年戦争再開後は70年に王軍総司令官に就任し，戦局を有利に導いた。シャルル5世の人材登用の手腕を示す好事例であり，彼自身それにこたえて，休戦期間中に強盗団化した傭兵隊を王軍の戦力に加え，あわせて治安の回復を図るなど，現実主義的な処理能力を発揮した。
