The ratio of carbon to nitrogen contained in plants or in humus in soil. It is also written as C/N ratio and is called carbon-nitrogen ratio. It is used in the following two cases. (1) When trying to explain the flowering phenomenon (the formation of flower buds) in higher plants by the ratio of carbon and nitrogen within the body. The idea that plant flowering is influenced by the nutritional state within the body was presented in the 1900s by H. Fischer (1916), G. Klebs (1918), and others, and the concept of C-N ratio was also presented in that paper. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
