Japanese: 椎葉[村] - しいば

A village in Higashiusuki County in the north-central part of Miyazaki Prefecture. A mountain village occupying the Kyushu mountain range in the upper reaches of the Mimikawa River, during the Edo period it was part of the Hitoyoshi domain along with Mera to the south. Its main industry is forestry, and it is home to the Kami-Shiiba Dam. Said to have been a hidden rice field settlement of the Taira clan, it is home to the Tsurutomi residence, which tells the story of Nasu Daihachiro and Princess Tsurutomi, and is known for the folk song "Hietsuki-bushi." Area: 537.29 ^km2 . Population: 3,092 (2010).

宮崎県中北部，東臼杵(ひがしうすき)郡の村。耳川上流部の九州山地を占める山村で，江戸期には南の米良(めら)とともに人吉(ひとよし)藩領。林業を主とし，上椎葉ダムがある。平家の隠田(おんでん)集落と伝え，那須大八郎と鶴富姫の物語を伝える鶴富屋敷があり，民謡《稗搗(ひえつき)節》で知られる。537.29km²。3092人（2010）。
