Silver cyanide

Silver cyanide. A white powder obtained by adding an aqueous solution of potassium cyanide to an aqueous solution of silver nitrate, washing the resulting precipitate with water and drying. It gradually discolors and decomposes when exposed to light. When heated in the absence of air, it decomposes, releasing cyanide at temperatures above 320°C. It is insoluble in ethanol (ethyl alcohol) and dilute acids. It dissolves in hot concentrated nitric acid to form a double salt with silver nitrate. It dissolves in concentrated aqueous ammonia and sodium thiosulfate. It dissolves in alkali cyanide, forming a cyano complex salt. It is toxic.

銀のシアン化物。硝酸銀の水溶液にシアン化カリウム水溶液を加え、生じた沈殿を水で洗って乾燥させると得られる白色の粉末。光によって徐々に変色して分解する。空気を断って熱すると分解し、320℃以上でシアンを発生する。エタノール（エチルアルコール）、希酸に不溶。熱濃硝酸には溶けて硝酸銀との複塩をつくる。濃アンモニア水、チオ硫酸ナトリウムには溶ける。シアン化アルカリにはシアノ錯塩をつくって溶ける。有毒である。
