A port city on the north coast of Central Java, Indonesia. It was one of the first places in Java to be Islamized, and is said to have been founded by a Muslim Chinese in the late 15th century. His son, who appears in Portuguese historical documents as Lodim, died around 1504. His successor, Terengana, developed the Demak Kingdom to the east and west, and destroyed the great Majapahit in eastern Java around 27. In western Java, he helped the kingdoms of Banten and Cherebong to grow in power, and spread Islam throughout the north coast of Java.

インドネシア，中部ジャワ北岸の港市。ジャワで最も早くイスラム化の波が及んだ所で，15世紀後半にあるムスリム華僑がこの町を建設したと伝えられる。その息子はポルトガル史料にロディムの名で現れ，1504年ころ死に，その後継者トレンガナがデマック王国を東西に発展させ，27年ころ東部ジャワの大国マジャパイトを滅亡させた。そして西部ジャワではバンテンおよびチェリボン両王国の勢力増大を助け，ジャワ北岸一帯にイスラムを普及させた。
