Died: October 14, 1688. Nuremberg German Baroque painter. He created works across many genres, including classical and religious themes, still lifes, and portraits, but is best known for his work Teutsche Academie der Edlen Bau-Bild-und Mahlery-Künste (1675-80), which can be considered a source material for German art history. The first part of this work is about architecture, sculpture, and painting theory, the second part is biographies of artists he met in various places, and the third part contains introductions and research on some of his art collections, as well as translations of the poet Ovid, an important source of themes for painting.
