380 BCE? - 333 BCE A military man from the island of Rhodes. At the end of the Achaemenid Persian Empire, he was a powerful clan leader in Trouas, Asia Minor, and in 336 BC, he defeated the advance party of Macedonian King Philip II's Persian expedition. His opinion was not taken into account in Alexander the Great's expedition, and even after the Persian army was defeated in the Battle of Granicus River (344 BC), he continued to threaten Alexander's rear with his naval power, but he died of illness. His wife, Barsine, later became the wife of the great king. [Inoue Hajime] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
