Adams Bridge

...The entire strait lies on the continental shelf, and large sand spits extend from both sides of the strait due to the inflow of large amounts of sediment from the Caveri and Vaigai rivers. The water is only 10 meters deep, making it impossible for large ships to navigate. In the north of the strait, Cape Kalimer faces off against Cape Pedro on the Indian side, and in the south, a chain of small islands is called Adam's Bridge. A ferry takes about three hours to travel between Rameswaram, a pilgrimage site at the tip of the Indian side, and Talaimannar in Sri Lanka.
