A city in eastern Hyogo Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1958. It is located in the upper reaches of the Mukogawa River. The central city of Sanda was established as a temple town for Konshinji Temple, and in the Edo period it was the castle town of the Kuki clan. Miwa, on the opposite bank of the Mukogawa River, is a transportation and commercial district that developed around the station after the Fukuchiyama Line opened. It produces Sanda rice, Kobe beef, and matsutake mushrooms, and is also home to thriving industries such as sake brewing, lumbering, and electrical equipment. The industrial park is currently attracting non-polluting factories, mainly in the cutting-edge technology industry. In recent years, the population has been rapidly increasing due to the construction of Hokusetsu Sanda New Town. It is home to Kazan-in Temple, the mausoleum of Emperor Kazan, and Miwa Shrine. The Kobe Electric Railway Sanda Line, Flower Town Line, and the Chugoku Expressway also pass through the city. It has an area of 210.32 ^km2 and a population of 114,216 (2010).

兵庫県東部の市。1958年市制。武庫川の上流部に当たり，中心市街三田は金心(こんしん)寺の門前町として開け，江戸時代は九鬼氏の城下町。武庫川対岸の三輪は福知山線開通後駅を中心に発展した交通商業地区。三田米，神戸牛，マツタケを産し，酒造，製材，電気機器などの工業も盛ん。工業団地には先端技術産業を中心に無公害工場の誘致を進めている。近年は北摂三田ニュータウンの建設などで人口が急増している。花山天皇の廟所花山院，三輪神社がある。神戸電鉄三田線，フラワータウン線，中国自動車道も通じる。210.32km²。11万4216人（2010）。
