[Somatic reflexes]
Reflexes whose reflex center is in the spinal cord are collectively called spinal reflexes, which are divided into segmental reflexes that are localized to a few spinal segments (short segments corresponding to each vertebra) and intersegmental reflexes that span many spinal segments. In addition to the flexion reflex mentioned above, segmental reflexes include the stretch reflex (when a muscle is stretched, it contracts), tendon reflex (a type of stretch reflex that occurs when a tendon is tapped to stretch the muscle for a short period of time), and crossed extension reflex (the limb opposite to the limb in which the flexion reflex occurs is extended). A typical intersegmental reflex is the scratch reflex, which causes cats and dogs to raise their hind limbs and rhythmically scratch when a stimulus is applied to the shoulders.

　反射中枢が脊髄にあるものを脊髄反射spinal reflexと総称し，これが数個の脊髄節(各脊椎骨と対応する短い分節)に限局している脊髄節反射と，多くの脊髄節にわたる脊髄節間反射とに分ける。脊髄節反射には上記の屈曲反射のほか，伸張反射stretch reflex(ある筋肉を引き伸ばすとその筋肉に収縮が起こる)，腱反射tendon reflex(腱をたたいて筋肉を短時間引き伸ばすと起こる一種の伸張反射)，交叉伸展反射crossed extension reflex(屈曲反射の起こる肢と反対側の肢が伸びる)などがある。脊髄節間反射として典型的なのはひっかき反射scratch reflexで，ネコやイヌの肩口などに刺激が加わると，後肢をあげて律動的にひっかく運動が起こる。…
