A species of red algae in the order Crackletia, family Corallinaceae, generally referred to as calcareous algae. There are more than 400 known species of calcareous algae, and the algal bodies are hard due to the accumulation of lime. This species is larger than average, 5-8 cm tall, and grows in colonies on rocks in the intertidal zone. The algal bodies are pinnately divided, and reproductive organs are formed at the apex and sometimes on the sides.
