Dissatisfied with the gradualism of the Kenya African Union (KAU), radicals expanded their militant organization among agricultural workers in the White Highlands and poor farmers in the Kikuyu region around 1951, but the colonial government, believing this to be a secret organization called Mau Mau, banned it.
