Mau Mau (English spelling) MauMau

...An armed struggle against British rule, centered on the Kikuyu people, that took place in the 1950s in the British colony of Kenya in East Africa. Dissatisfied with the gradualism of the Kenya African Union (KAU), radicals expanded their militant organization among agricultural workers in the White Highlands and poor farmers in the Kikuyu region around 1951, but the colonial government, believing this to be a secret organization called Mau Mau, banned it. In October 1952, the government declared a state of emergency, arrested Kenyatta and other KAU leaders, and used British regular troops sent from the UK to put down the rebel forces, who were using guerilla tactics.
