Mitsuhashi Kaisho - Sankyo Kaisho

Japanese: 三橋会所 - さんきょうかいしょ

This was a meeting place for the Edo Togumi Group of wholesalers of Hishigaki-kaisen cargo ships. The Hishigaki-kaisen ships, which connected Osaka and Edo, transported products from the Kinai region and other regions, but suffered serious damage from shipwrecks and also competed with barrel ships, causing a decline since the latter half of the 18th century. The Edo Togumi Group of merchants, who controlled the Hishigaki-kaisen, had a monopoly on downstream goods from Osaka, but as their position began to weaken with the rise of outside merchants, they began to seek the guarantee of their privileges as wholesalers through authority. In 1809 (Bunka 6), the Togumi Group of merchants offered to take on the replacement and repair of the three bridges, Eitai Bridge, Shin-Ohashi Bridge, and Okawa Bridge, and were allowed by the shogunate to establish a meeting place, with Sugimoto Mojuro (formerly Osakaya Mohei, a courier wholesaler) appointed as its president.

江戸の十組問屋を中心とする菱垣廻船積問屋仲間の会所。大坂と江戸を結ぶ菱垣廻船は，畿内産をはじめとする諸国物産を輸送したが，海難による被害が著しく，樽廻船との競合もあって，18世紀後半以降衰退しつつあった。菱垣廻船を支配していた江戸十組仲間は，大坂からの下り商品を独占的に扱っていたが，仲間外商人の台頭によりその地位が揺るぎはじめたため，問屋としての特権を権力によって保障されることを望むようになった。1809年(文化6)十組仲間は永代橋･新大橋･大川橋の三橋架替え･修復を引き受けることを申し出，幕府から会所を設立することを許され，頭取として杉本茂十郎(元，飛脚問屋大坂屋茂兵衛)が任命された。
